Please recommend some good bands.

I'm starving damn it. I want good rock music and I want it NOW.
Could anyone recommend some good bands that I might find interesting? Bands that don't have a wide audience but damn deserve it?

My tastes are: Collective Soul, Alice in Chains, Days of the New, The Wallflowers, Better Than Ezra, and a lot of classic rock.

check out the radio charts > seattle > 107.7 KNDD (the End) radio station playlistings, there should be some good bands you would like there. There is also a couple of iMixes I would look for, in addition to one called 107-9 the end, there is one that was something along the lines of I heard it on KXPP to find lesser known bands.

I'd hit allmusic.com. Do a search for the bands you like and see what comes up in the "other bands like this" list.

Thursday, Primus, 311, Bad Religion. all definitely great bands.

you might also be interested in SoundGarden, STP and possibly Brand New. hmmm how about some solo artists like Ben Harper, Bjork or some Beck...I guess I'm done. I'll see what else I can come up with.

The New Grateful Dead (The Dead)

The new edition of The Dead (without Garcia) is really good!

2003 tour featured Joan Osborne: link

Have not heard the 2004 stuff though.

Some good bands.

Alt/Rock: check out Alpinestars, Blackfield, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, **The Booda Velvets, Calla, Cave In, *Disappointment Incorporated, Elbow ('Newborn', a couple others), Ether Seeds ('Save Your Own Life'), The Exies, Jesse Malin ('The Fine Art Of Self Destruction'), JJ72, Johnny Bravo (NOT the cartoon), Johnny Marr And The Healers ('The Last Ride'), Káre And The Cavemen, The Locomotives, Love Spit Love, *Lupine Howl, The Mars Volta (way out there, but cool), *My Vitriol, No-Man, Opeth (sorta Goth), Paloalto, Phantom Planet ('Big Brat'), ***Porcupine Tree, Pulp, Scars Of Life - metal/punk ('Purity'), Scapegoat Wax, Snow Patrol ('Ways And Means', others), Space, Sparta (punk), Steadman, Stereolab (mellow but nice), Stiltwalker, Super Furry Animals ('Some Things Come From Nothing', others), *Swervedriver

Electronic/Ambient: try Boards Of Canada, De Facto, Kenji Yamazaki ('Scala', others), Sneaker Pimps

Jazz/Fusion Jazz/Acid Jazz/Jazz Rock: Bruford/Levin, Italian Secret Service, *New Wet Kojak (cooler than you and I ), Teknicolour, Tortoise

Classic Rock: Captain Beyond, Bill Withers ('Use Me Up'), Head East ('Save My Life'), Klaatu

80's: Brian Ferry And Roxy Music, Bauhaus, Flash and The Pan, The Godfathers, Ian Dury And The Blockheads, Psychedelic Furs, White Town

Lounge/Vocal: *Cousteau

Dance/Techno: *The Crystal Method, Kid Creole And The Coconuts (Latin, 80's)

Unclassifiable: Girls Against Boys

Progressive: Jade Warrior, Jon Anderson

*Particularly good bands

Stuff in apostrophes are song titles, to get you started.

That about exhausts the best of my playlists - ought to keep you busy for a year or two. And if I do say so myself, I have damned good musical tastes. Let me know if you agree!
