Is my external hard drive dead?

Hi everyone, I'm a newbie here and could really use your help.

I have a LaCie mini FW HD that I've been using to backup my iMac. The other day, I was playing around with erasing the disk and repartitioning. While changing the partitions and zeroing the disk out for a second or third time, the progress seemed to freeze up, so I manually canceled the process. A warning then appeared saying that the action might render the HD inoperable, but I chose to ignore this, like the fool that I am. Now, when I try to mount the HD, it's nowhere to be found on the desktop or in Disk Utility. Furthermore, the HD makes a slow and repeating clicking sound that wasn't there before. I would like to know if there is anything that can be done to salvage the HD, or if I permanently screwed it up. By the way, I'm not interested in retrieving information off the HD, I just want to be able to use it again.

Thank you,
-Nathan
