QuickTime support AVI?

I'm trying to help this guy out with his QuickTime (on his PC). He his having trouble playing an AVI file; like it says that it needs some needed software or something. Can QuickTime play AVI files? (I'm not even sure what AVI means....😛)

Yes, it can, but you have to download the appropriate plugins. I think you can find them on divx.com or VersionTracker.

The 3ivx component plays most AVI formats.

Or even better, download VLC. Plays everything you throw at it.

Except Windows Media 9 format.
