iMac 27" screen... with HDMI

So as some of you know, the gorgeous 27" IPS LED backlit panel is made by lg... It looks like dell will now be selling a monitor with the same panel WITH HDMI!!

Now i defnitely have to look into building a comparable PC before settling with the iMac.

At that price, I think the iMac looks like a great value! After all, this monitor costs $1,049. The lowest end 27 inch iMac is $1700. That means you have to fit a PC into that $650 difference. A PC with:

• 3.06GHz C2D Processor
• 4GB of 1066MHz DDR3 RAM
• 1TB HDD
• Built in 802.11N Dual Band WiFi and Bluetooth
• Wireless keyboard and multitouch wireless mouse
• Decent webcam
• Low end speakers
• Fairly decent discrete video card (ie not intergrated video)

The only benefit to building a PC is the upgradability (which can be a major factor). It's a shame the iMacs are having such manufacturing issues, as the 27 inch iMac is one of the best values Apple have ever put out.

EDIT: Also, there is no information in that Engadget article to suggest that this Dell monitor is LED backlit. In contrast, the iMacs are known to be backlit.

EDIT2: Yup, just like I thought, this isn't backlit. A CNET review shows it as being CCFL backlit.

Actually, ive read otherwise that it is in fact LED backlit. Honestly Cnet isnt always known for their accurate reviews and given that this is the same panel, it should be led backlit.

Anyway, when talking about a budget c2d system, the imac is actually a very good value... when you start looking at a higher end i7 machine, you can build a PC slightly cheaper with a much better graphics card, not to mention the hdmi port in the back, which should allow much more use of this display since you would be looking at another 250 to get the imac to do the same thing.

Obviously this isnt going to sway everyone's decision but it is nice to see how we can compare the imac to a pc component by component.

i would love to buy this if it where half the price. Unlike the 27 imac screen, you can play blu rays and the 360 at native resolution.

yeah... its quite pricey. which is why the iMac is still quite the bargain assuming you dont want or care for blu ray and etc...


The good news is, dell usually has great deals and coupons which would allow you to get this monitor for far less then MSRP.

Your crusade makes no sense. Microsoft is still selling the units and plenty of people are happy with them. If you or any else doesn't like it, return it and get a refund.

This is a fail screen Dell!

Been kind of looking forward to it since it has similar specs as the iMac screen in MATTE!

As pointed out earlier this thing has CCFL backlighting damnit. That's so behind the times (in a way). Still I would wish to see one in person to see how the screen really plays out. Maybe LEDs are too bright for matte displays.
