hi
I make music using logic mainly. But also use other programmes.
And just generally heavy computer user, graphics apps, internet.

I get pain in arms and wrists from computers, trackball mice have helped.
But now looking into a tablet like the ones on WACOM website.
Seems great for graphicy apps and for drawing/painting...

Just wondering if these kind of tablets are good with music audio apps too, like logic, pro tools, reason, ableton, and basically just generally replacing the trackpad and mouse to use computer.

anyone got any experience of tablets in these situations???

recommendations?

thankyou.

I haven't done this myself, but know friends who swear on their wacoms for audio production and others for video editing. I never warmed to it. More a mouse person - me. But they work fast with it. Try one out first, see if it's easy for you to use.

I've not tried a graphics tablet, but I have regularly used a Nintendo Wii controller with my audio software. It's good fun! As well as very creative. You can use them for all kinds of funky automation shenanigans.
Plus the controllers are silly cheap. You just need a Mac with bluetooth, and some software to interface the Wii controller to your music app. There's 2 or 3 for Macs. Some are free, some are not. I use Osculator which is superb for this. It isn't free, but it is cheap and does seem to be the best choice for a Wii controller at least.

I've not used my Wacom for audio. But I do for other things. Expect a learning period. It will feel inaccurate and clumsy at first. May take as long as a week or two before you are good at it.

For audio work there are speccialize control surfaces that work much better

thanks to everyone

i couldnt wait, ordered a wacom last night. it sounds and looks like a miracle.
i need to try it. :):):):eek::D:D:)

at least i know its regarded as compulsory to use for graphics apps, so ill use with that definately. :)
And just seems like a giant trackpad like the one on macbooks, but you can use it with pc deskops, so that sounds awsome. :)

to all the mouse users. be careful. they can damage your health.
the standard computer design is a hazard.
it needs a complete new re design i feel. things are getting better slowly though.
trackballs, trackpads, pens, ergonomic equipment.....but i guess if you do anything alot, it will wear something down.

wii controller? that sounds nuts! i think ill pass on that, thanks though.
mmm maybe ill look into that later..

yeah i guess there are specialist controller surfaces for audio apps with faders and all that, bit too expensive though, and bulky. i have a midi controller which im learning so that a nice way of working too with music apps. midi assigning controllers is also a steep learning curve!!

Good luck with the wacom tablet.
I wish I could use one easily. One day I must try and get the hang of it. I will always love my mixing desk, mouse and keyboard. Look out on the 27th when SJ announces the next big thing: Touch tablet/ iBook Touch.

havnt used my tablet with audio apps yet, but its gonna be very very nice.

thankyouthankyouthankyou

im using the pen instead of the mouse or trackpad.

using the trackpad on the tablet with fingers (like a macbook trackpad) is quite awkward and alot hand and finger movement required, not good for RSI etc.

using the pen to navigate and use as the pointer, is by far the easiest way ive yet come across to use computer. Theres also left and right clicks on the pen.

no need to use mouse, ever.

wish the tablet had arrow keys on it....that would be nice.

now i can be on computer for HOURS, with no pain.

highly recommended.

cheers.
