How do you save dvd movies onto your hard disk? I find it more convenient to just view without having to dig out the dvd. I know you can create a disk image with Disk Utility, but I don't know how reliable this is with dvds. Theoretically, it should work, but will take forever.

In my experience, Disk Utility has choked on the encryption. Try a program like Handbrake. Also, an uncompressed DVD image can be as much as 6-8GB! 😱

Handbreak takes forever. DVD backup the Video_TS folder, use DVD2oneX to compress it (with or without extras). Good size, brunable onto a DVD with toast. Sweet.

Use MacTheRipper first. Oh, and you'll likely want a 1TB Lacie. 🙄

so if you use Mac the ripper then use mac2onex (got both - cant use them to affect) then burn it to cd using toast it will work will it?? what do i have to do to make this work...never owned a dvd burner before 😱

AL_FAMOUS: You need to create a disc image with DVD2oneX if you want to burn a DVD. Sent you a PM.

im starting to think there should be a DVD FAQ sticky.

FYI: DVD2OneX doesn't create a disc image, it lowers the resolution of the video tracks.

Sure, DVD2oneX further compresses the video track, but there's also an option to create a disc image (when you have MKISOFS installed) and this is useful if you want to burn a full disc copy.
