Is there a way to create small thumbnails in iPhone Photos app

I'm talking about pics on iPhone, when i go to Photos > Camera Roll all I see are black thumbnails (before backup and restore I could search through all my photos, now I can't). So is there a way to create these small previews?
I've seen this before in threads here. Sorry, I was looking at something else and lost track of your question. Let me search a bit and I think I can help and save you the restore step.
