I installed Panther on my Bondi Blue iMac a few months ago. I left it alone for a few months to let it discharge (it suffers from GLOD).
I used my MacWireless USB Adapter and hooked up to my neighbor's Linksys router today (they don't know about it 🙂 I would've connected to my G4 iMac with its Airport card, but it's not quite working properly). I downloaded all of the updates I needed. iPhoto, iCal, iTunes, iChat, and a few others and, of course, 10.3.5 Combo Update. So I went ahead and downloaded and installed everything. I rebooted, and I got the gray screen with the black Apple logo. I waited for it to boot up... and waited... and waited... and waited... for about 20 minutes. I then turned it off, ate lunch, came back, and let it reboot. I left it on for another 30 minutes this time and nothing...
I booted off the Panther disc and verified and repaired permissions then verified the disk (but not repair it because it was okay). I then re-booted into 10.3.5 and left it one for 40 minutes. Nothing.
What's wrong?! 😕 I'm ready to leave it on for an hour or so later tonight and hope it fixes itself, unless there is a better way to deal with this.
