I was just wondering how many dot com or dot net domain names other people own, so how many do you own...

I only own 6 .com's and 1 .net

how much does a .com cost? roughly??
or co.uk
Depends -- Register.com is $35/year, but I know I've seen cheaper. Where you register your .com can be problematic, though. Some registrars have been known to "lose" domains.

On top of that, you've got to pay for hosting. Usually some kind of hosting is included with your ISP, but .com hosting tends to cost a little more. A "budget" option is to do a redirect, available from places like dydns.org.

P.S.: I have two domains, commontext.org and wordmunger.com

Well I know the site I got them from takes paypal and CC's. I bought these:

lisacomputer.com
lisacomputers.com
usedmacstuff.com
vintagemacs.com
macsruscomputers.com
newtontechnology.net

I only am using one the macs r us one.

I have two .coms

how2mac.com
pvito.com

I used networksolutions to register. I like their DNS options and I think they are around $35/year...

I got one static ip address from my cable company and I use an upgraded B&W G4 runnig os x as a web/mail server...

I just registered my first domain name last week... just something that's going to be a private web site I can post pictures/video on for my family. 🙂

I got it through vizaweb.com... if you sign up for a year's hosting service the domain registration is free, and the price on the hosting is great too.

I think I own 4, can't really remember since 3 of them I don't do anything with.

jeremyron.com
geckoscript.com
mavasoft.com
willinois.com

I'll third the vote for GoDaddy.com, but I have also used MyDomain because of their powerful DNS management tools - it's easy to setup your domain to point at a webserver in your home, if you have static IP (or even semi-static like mine).

wow. seems like every one here has domain name. guess im the only one who doesn't. 🙁 I could never justify one, since I don't have the need. (other than a blog, but im not about to publish my life on the internet)

I control about 40, of which 12 are my personal ones and the rest are for clients.

I only own Mapache.org. I have my registration through NameCheap, which is $8.88 / year and subcontracts from eNom, giving me access to things like instant DNS updates. I've heard too many problematic stories about GoDaddy to worry about saving less than two dollars a year.

I have a few of my own and some I do for clients. itsyourdomain.com is a pretty cheap place to buy a domain. netfirms.com will host your site for free if you don't mind a banner at the top. They even allow FTP access. I use them for my personal/just for fun sites.

www.digitaldoodle.com collection of my digital drawings
www.retiredcameras.com collection of my antique cameras and other camera related items.

Can you justify a .Mac account? I use my .Mac account for things I want to post but that don't really need a domain name.
