I'm trying to get into my friends computer to help her and Can't. Could she be behind a firewall? I'm trying to log into her IP address, with a known Port number and password...and it's not working

I can't connect via ssh either.

Any thoughts????

Thanks

Is your friend's computer a PC or Mac? What OS is it running? Are they using a router? Static or dynamic IP? Is their copy of VNC setup to accept connections from people not in their subdomain?

It's a Mac running VNC 4.1. it's running OS X.2.8. She does have a router number as she's on a University network. She has a static IP. I can't ping her IP address? what does that mean?

Odds are (since she's on a University network) you have a firewall or two you'd have to get through in order to get to her computer. You'd have to contact the University's IT department to see if there's a way to do it.
