Creating other folders instead of inbox, trash, sent , and drafts

Can you, and if so, how do you create new mail folders instead of the default folders - inbox, trash, sent and drafts.
 
For a Pop Mail account (like Hotmail) that's all you can get. For IMAP (like Yahoo or Gmail) you get all the folders on the server.
