i just had service battery on my laptop and took it to apple. they replaced the battery and explained that if i leave it charging at 100 it overcharges and causes service battery and other errors. is there any programs or something i can use to make my mac stop charging at 99%? or do i just have to manually pull out the charger?

What Mac (month/year of purchase) do you have?

Because that sounds a little bit farfetched, as every user of a Mac uses their notebook with the power adapter at one time, and charging up to 100% and using it still with power adapter is not a rarity.

I use(d) my three Apple notebooks on and off the power adapter, and they are still going strong with their batteries. The only one that is dying is my iBook's battery, but it also has over 600 cycles on it.

the regular aluminium macbook. its not being made anymore

Then the battery and its surrounding components are sophisticated enough to stop charging automatically.

Maybe your first battery was just a lemon, a bad batch.
