Hi
I have had an idea, the XServe is very powerful and probably too powerful to be used for a small scale website, but whose owner would like there own site, my idea is called iserve, it is basicly a small version with a G3 processor, 256mb RAM and 2 5gb HDs (Raid Mirroring) the device has 2 100bs-t Ethernet ports that would allow it to connect to the net and the device would be configured via a web browser from a mac / windows box. Also a battery that would last about 3 hours (incase of power cuts)
Size - H=4" Width=4.8" Depth 0.78"
Supports: Apache web server (PHP, CGI etc...)
It would be possible to fit many of these in a rack system, perfect for co-locating.
Possible extras - Firewire Port and Airport/Bluetooth to get files on to the HD. FTP/Web Dav Support.
Anyone think this is a good idea? Let me know what you think (the design would be similar to iPod, see attachment.
