Time Capsule & USB connection to TV

Hi guys,

I have perhaps a silly question, but I know nothing of the Time Capsule, so please pardon my ignorance.

I have a Samsung LED television. What I am wanting to do is plug the TC into the Samsung Television using its USB ports. And then from my iMac send files to the TC over my wireless network, and then playback from the TC as I do currently from a regular external HDD that is connected to the TV.

Anyone done something similar or know if this will work?

I'm not sure how that'd work with the Time Capsule in general due to the fact that there's slightly more brains in that a typical external drive, but my biggest initial concern would be whether or not your TV supported whatever filesystem is used by Apple drives (still new to Macs, I don't know the filesystem name off hand :p)
 
It won't work. The USB port on the Time Capsule only supports printers and HDDs to be shared over your network.
 
Does anyone know of any other device, or combination of devices that will allow me to:

1. Play back media from a HDD on my television.
2. Send files to the HDD over a wireless network without the HDD needing to be connected to a LAN or modem/router.
 
No, the TC was never designed as a stand alone HDD. It was meant as a router with an HDD built in that can be utilized for Time Machine and as a network attached storage (NAS).

I would suggest an Apple TV with Boxee installed. This lets you place any non-DRM media files you wish onto the ATV and watch it on your television. It also allows wifi connectivity with your Mac/PC without the need for cables. And it allows you to connect an external to the ATV if extra storage is needed. Or if you prefer, you can wait for the Boxee Box to come out. Should do the same thing without the ATV part of it.

There are definitely more options available. I was just suggesting the ATV as that is what I use and have been quite happy with (especially after the Boxee install).

One thing to note about the link you provided, it is more expensive than the ATV. And it also seems that there are none in stock with the online retailers they list on their site (may be discontinued).

Although you should note it has no wifi and needs an external drive or networked computer to stream media from.

Just do some research, read up on some reviews and I'm sure you'll find the right device for your needs.
