Needed: A Check Book App for a Shared Checking Account

For years my wife and I have shared a checking account and just tried our best to remember to bring home receipts, tell each other what we've spent and we've just eyeballed out account online to try and maintain a balance.

I'd like to have an iphone app that allows her and I (who both have iphones) to enter in transactions either deposits or withdraws, checks, debit card purchases etc. and then sync them daily together to get a good running balance on our account.

I don't want a total family budgeting app but as long as it has a sync feature so we can keep track of all our transactions I won't mind having the extra perks.

Anyone know of anything like this?

Thanks!

While my wife and I use iBank for the Mac which syncs onto our MobileMe accounts which is awesome for almost realtime.
But this may work for you both: Accounts - Checkbook by SVT Software

Not bad. I went ahead and bought it. The syncing of the 2 phones to 1 account via sending each transaction via email is kinda cumbersome but it works. There should be a "Sync" button where you send all your transactions to the other person using the account and it adds anything new, ignores anything that's already there.

iReconcile

If you're still looking for another option, check out iReconcile. It'll do exactly what you want without having to manually sync between your two devices.

The only downside is the sync service is subscription based which will run you $20/year but it's well worth it to me. The app is $2.99 which includes a 30 day trial of their syncing service.

20 bucks a year to sync would be a dream come true. I'll have to try it. Sending an email for every transaction isn't going to work for us. It'd take us 2 or 3 minutes just to open the email, let the app load, apply the transaction for each one. We may make 3+ debit card purchases a day each. Just too time consuming.

Shared Checking Account Solution

I know it's been a while since anyone has responded to this post but I did want to point out an application I'm currently working on called Chext. It uses simple text messages to help balance a joint checking account.

You can find it at www.chext.net. Check it out and let me know if it meets your needs! I use it myself and have found it invaluable!

Regards,
Jeff
