Does Finder know the colour of your iPod mini?

I've got a blue iPod mini and it's icon on the desktop and in iTunes is also blue. As mine is the only iPod mini I've ever seen in the flesh let alone connected to other macs I don't know whether the icon is a different colour depending on the iPod?!

Nobody cares. Its just another nice little touch that Apple has made that many would not have thought about.

It's actually quite interesting really. It means they don't just simply put any old innards in any old case. At what point does the iPod know what colour it is - during the making of the mini logic board - when they print the serial numbers on the back - or when they load the software?

Who cares? Well... me!

Yeah, I didn't expect that kind of reaction.

You know odd that you would Ask because I was just noticing that my silver appeared silver on the desktop. I thought it was because silver was the flagship color but I guess not...

your 15, don't you have some homework or something constructive to do. when people ask questions they like them to be answered. we don't need "who cares?" comments from youngin's like you. if your going to help then help, if not just read.

hear hear - as always, iJon you're the voice of reason! I'm pretty impressed by this fact, Apple's always big on the little things!!

that is pretty cool though. i have had every ipod since the first one and the icon always symbolized which model you had. i have held all the mini's, but don't own one personally so i haven't seen the color on the desktop, but now that i think of it, why wouldn't it show up which color it is.

well apparently you do since you bothered to even post a reply, macrumors runneth over with intelligence.

that's pretty sweet that it actually recognizes the COLOR, i knew the icon corresponded to the generation (i.e. your 3rd gen ipod's icon looks like a 3rd gen ipod), but had no idea they'd put a nice little touch like corresponding colors as well.

yay for apple and their attention to detail...now please lavish some of that attention on OS X's GUI!!

There's no way the iPod could 'know' what colour it was without being told during its manufacture. It means that there must be five different versions of the iPod software - all with different icon sets.

But yes, from a purely user-centric viewpoint the icon would naturally be the same colour.

I love the little Apple touches like this. And, personally, if I had a mini, I think I would like the icon color to match. And, as for "who cares?", it seems Apple does.

Um... then why did you click on the link?

Anyway, I never noticed that before, good catch. I have a Silver Mini, but I guess I don't use it enough to notice neat little things like that. I too think it's actually pretty cool that Apple does this type of thing.
