I can't transfer files from my powerbook to my frens firewire external hard drive, in the permission it says i can only read but no other options.

Anyone please tell me how.

Single click on the external HD, then go to File>Get Info then go under Ownership & Permissions, see if you can change them. If you can't and their faded out, then I'd say you have to reformat the external HD so you can use it.

Can your friend change the permissions then you can try again? Hook up the hard drive to your friend's Mac, have him set the permissions to Others: Read & Write.

Also, under Details is their a Lock next to the Owner box? Try unlocking it (your friend may have to enter his password) and then you could change it from your end.
