Using 1333mhz ECC RAM in QC iMac?
I'm not sure the details on mixing RAM types these days, particularly with ECC/non-ECC. I have the stock 27" i5 iMac (so presumably 2x2GB chips). I have 2 1333mhz ECC 1GB chips (http://www.eworldsale.com/samsung-dd...764_43363.html) available to me. Would it work to pop those in to the 2 empty slots in the computer or would mixing the types cause problems?

AFAIK you can use it and trying it won't break anything.
EDIT: Is it desktop or laptop RAM (DIMM or SO-DIMM?) iMacs use SO-DIMMs (laptop RAM) so if that's desktop RAM it won't fit Last edited by Hellhammer; Mar 8, 2010 at 02:57 PM. |

Nope. First, because you need SODIMM, not DIMM for your iMac, second cause it's chipset is not compatible with ECC memory.

Good point about the laptop RAM, I didn't even think about that.
