Install snow leopard to a firewire drive?

Can i install snow leopard straight to a firewire drive?
If so what is the best way to do this? i don't want to just clone the internal drive to the firewire drive, i want a clean install to play with.

Boot from the install disk and plug in the drive and install OS X into it. All Mac and some drives doesn't support booting from FW though (can't remember which but you can try it anyway)

that is odd that there would be some drives that cant boot from firewire

Yea but it's true. Maybe their driver/firmware doesn't support it or it has been disabled. Most drives do though
