Instal what exactly? You installed three drivers the guy mentioned right? That's all you need to install I believe unless we're using different definitions of the word install. Install the three drivers, Ghostscript etc. then go to add your printer. Put in the IP address the printer has on your network under LPD, and when you you do that, it should give you the name of the printer driver to use, Ricoh Aficio MX C2500 PXL. After that you should be able to print. If you can, try putting the printers IP address under IPP and everything else the same as before. If that still doesn't work... I have no idea...

I installed those, I thought I might have to install the c2500 pxl driver separately. I tried t as ipp the first time to no avail.

Not sure if anyone will check this thread again but I just wanted to ask another question. I've got the same printer. I've installed the same drivers and it is INCREDIBLY slow. I usually print from XP in Parallels now b/c it is so much faster.

With that said, would the postscript option make a difference in speed? Also, when i print to the printer its not what I'd call razor sharp. It looks as if everything has been converted to a TIF then printed. I'm printing a PDF exported from InDesign btw. So its all vector. Anyway, would the postscript option make the prints look better?

My boss is open to buying it, but i don't want to if its only a marginal improvement.

When I print PDFs its really slow for me too. I'm not sure how fast the postscript is though so I can't really... sorry.

I also have problems with this printer (the Gestetner PCL version), and basically - after reading this thread - it comes down to this:
I *am* able to print in color, but it's *extremely* slow (2 minutes for this webpage and >15 minutes for a photo)!

I understand that Ricoh/Gestetner never created a correct driver for Macs but it's hard to get the client to understand that. They just bought some Macs and now their perfectly working color copier is obsolote...

What are the options?

Thank you Freepeacesweet, it worked like a charm.

My printer is branded "Nashuatec Aficio MP C2500", but the driver actually is named NRG MP 2500 PXL it is the same Ricoh hardware as yours.

I only had NRG MP 2500 PS in my driver list when installing the printer. When printing anything with this driver, the printer threw up an endless amount of sheets covered in gibberish.

Now that I installed Ghostscript, Pxlmono and Foomatic-RIP, I have a second item labeled NRG MP 2500 PXL, which I chose. Problem solved.

Download the following in this order and install from here:

http://www.linuxfoundation.org/colla...macosx/pxlmono

Ghostscript for Mac OS X 10.3.x (Panther) - Mac OS X 10.6.x (Snow Leopard)
Foomatic-RIP for Mac OS X 10.3.x (Panther) - Mac OS X 10.6.x (Snow Leopard)
pxlmono 1.6 for Mac OS X 10.3.x (Panther) - Mac OS X 10.6.x (Snow Leopard)

Once installed add your printer and use the following driver Ricoh Aficio MX C2500 PXL and you should have a fully working colour printer:

Good luck and enjoy.

works fine but no user code authentication

I followed the instructions installing the three packages in OSX Lion 10.7.2 the drivers work perfectly but they do not support the code authentication that is used in our office.

The PXL printer drivers have a section for code autentication under "Printer Features" > "Job Log" but you can only choose between a codes on a drop-down menu and you cant type the exact code you want.

I bypassed the problem creating an exception in the ricoh printer authentication, it now ignores authentication for all prints coming from my IP address... it's not very elegant but it works much better than buying 400$ PostScript card for the printer.

We also have a Aficio MP C3300 at work and after help from this forum can now print black and white using generic PCL option.

Can I ask has anyone managed fully functionality for the C3300 - i.e. colour options etc using OSX Lion and if so what proxy printer settings did you use ??

Would it work better if I go back to Snow Leopard ?

I FINALLY GOT IT TO WORK WITH NORMAL DRIVERS and Mac OS X 10.7

Download 10.7 PPD

Add printer:
1. choose HP Jetdirect protocol
2. ENter IP adress
3. Choose MP C2500 PXL driver

You can now print in color, and choose among the printers features such as stapling etc., from the print dialog!

PS! The ghostscript/foomatic solution works as well, but is a lot more hassle, and do not give access to printer spesific features.

Ricoh Aficio MP C2050 solution

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone, great community here.

None of them worked for me. But here is what did. Might not help most, but works for me!

OSX 10.7 MBA user on university campus, trying to print to Ricoh Aficio MP C2050 printer through Windows print server. I could install printer, but never send a print job successfully from my Mac. Tech support put in a ticket... So I started trying your tips, but no luck.

My problem seems to be not with the driver, but with the authentication of credentials for the campus network. IT suggested "Windows printer via spoolss" in setup, with configuration of:
smb://Username:Password@Domain/PrintserverDomain/PrinterName

This caused the problem, I believe (but worked for OSX 10.5).

Finally got printing to succeed using this config:
smb://PrintserverDomain/PrinterName

which triggered a pop-up asking for 'Name', 'Password', 'Remember this password in my keychain' checkbox, and radio buttons for 'Registered user' and 'Using an AppleID'. Filled in school username and password, clicked the Registered user button, and print job sent to Ricoh. This pop-up happens each time I print.

Solution works equally well using updated driver (from Apple link above) for RICOH Aficio MP C2050 PS, and using PXL version (from Ghostscript/Foomatic/pxlmono links above).

I got this fix idea from a thread for another University/Mac conflict.
http://www.bartneck.de/2008/11/06/in...s-environment/
(Comments from Sept 7 and Nov 22, 2011 were most useful)

Good luck all!

Slow printing

The solution with installing the ghostscript etc. works perfect to print, thanks!

BUT the printing time is sooo slow no matter which document and software I print from. Especially if there is images in the file to print and it holds the print queue during the spooling time. Is there any way to improve this so it doesnt take forever to print?

Thanks

This worked for me (Lion/Aficio MP C2500) too. It only took me 5 hours last night before I realized that it worked, since my RICOH had user codes on it and wouldn't print without them. Should anyone have trouble with user codes, this helped me: See second post (the script for changing the user code). I don't have any field/dropdown where I can choose my user code so I have set up the one I changed as default. I also installed the printer 3 different times with 3 different default user codes, so I don't have to change user codes, only choose the correct printer.

I thought you only get the PXL driver with pxlmono. You sure the link you provided contains a PXL and not a PS driver? I'll check this on my wife's MBP today and try your version without installing pxlmono.

Anyway, the steps I quoted in my previous post worked on my wife's Mac too and I was able to get the user codes working again. I did nothing but to install Ghostscript, Foomatic and PXLmono, then add the printer as IP and then HP Jetdirect and choose the PXL driver that pxlmono had installed. Then I used the script in the apple forum to change the user code of the printer installed.

Also, after installing the printer, the settings defaulted to paper size Letter and print mode Color and they always switched back on every print attempt. To permanently change the defaults you can browse to http://localhost:631 (you might need to run cupsctl WebInterface=yes in Terminal to switch the interface on. You'll get prompted for that).
In the CUPS interface go to Printers->click your printer->choose "Set Default Options" in one of the two drop downs->General->Color Mode (or any other option you want to change)->Set Default Option. Your printer defaults will show the correct options now.
Remember to turn off the CUPS WebInterface again.

Another thought: I didn't try this, since I don't use a Locked Print Password, but if you switch to Job Log in "Set Default Option", you get a drop down for predefined "Locked Print or Doc Server Password (4-8 digits)" values. Maybe if you open the PPD of the printer installed (/private/etc/cups/ppd/printer.ppd), search for the codes provided in that drop down and change them to what you want, they would show up correctly in this drop down. If you then set one of the values as default, you might get that working.

mp c2500 printing issues

Hi everyone,

I followed the directions by downloading ghostscript, foomatic, and pxlmono. After installing them I followed the directions by using the PXL driver.

So the copier actually started printing!!! However, it printed out two blank papers. At least it did recognize the number of pages that the pdf file I was printing out had (2pages). I was hoping that somebody would be able to assist me fixing this issue. Am I missing something, or did I do something wrong?

Thanks!

Are you on Lion and did you follow my instructions or someone else's?
My PXL printer driver is called Ricoh Aficio MP C2500 PXL, do you have the same one?
And did you try a TextEdit document, just to make sure the pdf is not broken?

VERY INTERESTING. PWHTY your AWESOME. I am on lion and am using the same pxl driver as you. I don't know how the heck you guys do it but you know the issues spot on. thank you.

Anyways, yes the pdf is broken. I printed out a word file document and it worked fine. I guess now my question is, would you happen to know how I would fix this pdf file issue. Its not just the file, but other pdf documents as well. I am currently reinstalling adobe reader and will be updating adobe flash, shockwave since that too has given me a few problems recently.

I'm glad it works. Unfortunately, I'm just a user who spent a few hours on fixing this issue a few months ago, but don't really have experience on anything besides what I had to deal with myself. So don't put your hopes too high.

About the pdfs: I'm not sure whether this is an issue of the pdfs themselves or still something wrong with the printer drivers, so here's another few questions that will hopefully help you track the problem:

Does the pdf file show fine in the preview before printing?
If you print/save the pdf to another pdf, will that work fine?
And will printing the pdfs work on another printer?

I hope you can deny at least one of these questions, otherwise it's still the drivers, I'd say.
