So far - so good with the new iMac I bought today. I may have the ever so slightest yellow tinge on the bottom - but I honestly think I am seeing things b/c of waiting so long for the issue to be resolved. Gonna let it run a few days and post pics of the screen for folks to critique.
This is quite the upgrade from a single core Celeron 2.4 Ghz with 512 MB of RAM (6 years old!). |

Use a desktop wallpaper with at least 60% of the screen covered with deep black. Let it run for couple of days. If you don't see the red band appearing then your unit is good. I got mine just last Saturday (3/20). I didn't see the red band problem until Sunday morning when I changed my desktop wallpaper. It is not obvious if you set your wallpaper to one of the default Desktop Pictures. Check my posting below.

You have to leave your iMac up & running for couple of days without shutting down. I think it is related to the temperature of your board or LCD panel. I'm not sure. As long as you don't see any obvious vertical red or green band about 4-inches wide then your screen is OK. You can check the following file attachments that I posted on another thread:

xboxbuckeye - congratulations on the new machine. Sounds like it was a pretty big upgrade for you.
If I were you, I'd use the machine normally, and if it doesn't exhibit any issues, then don't worry about it. I just got my i7 iMac a couple weeks ago, and that's what I'm doing. I'm using it to do the things I normally do, and if it shows an issue, I'll get it taken care of, but letting your computer run for two days straight with a particular wallpaper on screen is not "normal use" for anybody. I'm not saying there isn't a problem with some machines (the RAM was bad in mine, for instance), but it's gotten to the point where people are actively trying to force the machines to fail under extremely artificial circumstances, and that doesn't do anybody any good. Jumping into topics started by happy owners and trying to convince them to jump through ridiculous hoops is counter-productive. |

Just a side note to your comment regarding the wallpaper. It wasn't abnormal use in my case. I'm just trying to explain what I have experienced which could be useful for other mac owners since there have been similar reports from other mac users. As you can see in my screen shots they are clearly major anomalies in the display panel, which was confirmed by the Apple support. This issue is totally unacceptable if you compare this to the yellow tinge problem. The fact that this is my 2nd unit exhibiting the same problem is very alarming as far as the quality of the product is concern. That's why we come here to this forum to share our experiences with others.

Essentially I'd just be curious as to what your framerate is (FPS) in cities and outside of cities with the graphics cranked up to maximum. Disclaimer: I will probably drool on my keyboard when you give me the results.

The frame rates are great. Never less than 30 and often 60 FPS, sometimes even higher. That's with maximum settings and full resolution.

Exactly, if it dies, it dies... Simple as that. It has a warranty. I can't understand all of the hand wringing and lengths that people are going through to find a problem with their machines.
I got my machine, the hard drive failed. It was covered. I took it in, they replaced it. Simple as that. Do I blame Apple? No. Do I blame seagate? Yeah. Do I hate seagate? No. Am I going to write a pissy letter to anyone? No... Because, after working in manufacturing the last 20+ years I understand that every once in a while there will be failures. The screen issue may be a different subject but I just don't understand the obsessive stance some of the people here are taking on it. It's almost become a new form of trolling. Seems like you all are hoping for a failure. |
