I Want To Clean Install OSX but...

I've got nothing to back up my music files to except my iPod.

Can I get my music back off my iPod once I've done a clean install?
How does this affect the DRM on my iTMS music?


Thanks if anyone can help
 
There are programs that do this, check macupdate.com. or you could just wipe the iPod and store everything in hard drive mode and copy it back later.

that's a good suggestion, but remember to backup the library files, too, if you don't prefer to lose your ratings and play counts 😉

Before you perform the clean install, open iTunes, Click on Advanced --> Deauthorize Computer.

When you put your music back into iTunes after the clean install, simply play a track you purchased, you will be prompted for your music store password, and your computer will be reauthorized.
 
Or if you have the room, you could just drag your whole music folder onto the iPod while the iPod is in firewire disk mode. You would have 2 copies of your music on your iPod but it would be easyier than extracting the music with a 3rd party app.

A bit off topic. But I was also thinking of doing a clean install and wanted to know if the archive and install would be good or if it would be better to wipe the drive?

did my clean install

got authorisation for my iTMS files and everything is peachy


until I notice

I no longer have GarageBand...
 
You should have iLife CDs that came with your computer or in your iLife Retail Box.

Archive and Install usually cleans things out pretty well, unless you have problems stemming from preferences files in your home folder.
 
nope

didn't received any seperate iLife discs

all my other iLife apps were on my install disc

Yep. Couldn't agree more. Other restore-from-iPod utilities are free, but this one is well worth the $10.

try the software restore disk if you hann't allready
