iPad wants to be connected to iTunes every time turned on

My iPad shows 'connect to iTunes' every time I turn it on, I then plug into host computer and it instantly boots. This doesn't seem right at all. Has anyone else had this issue? How to fix? Otherwise a lovely product...

Seems wonky. You have a nearby Apple store?

It will do that until you go through the steps to register it w/Apple, then it's fine.
