4G 40G iPod won't show up on desktop?

Hi All,

My iPod gets to iTunes ok but I can only see it on my desktop for a brief second then it dissapears. If I'm fast enough I can click on it before it goes and use it for other files, not just music.

How do I keep it on my desktop permanently?

I hope I do not have a defective unit.
 
open itunes... and when you have the ipod plugged in click ipod perferences. (in the botome right) click firewire disk mode. and there you go. it stays there. reember you have to eject before you unplug it or youll corrupt your data.
