I am not a power user so base models are fine for me. However like many people I wanted the most for my money so I opted to wait for the upgrade and go with the new low end 15" and anti glare.

What is frustrating to me is that the low end 15" with anti glare is now $1950. First they remove anti glare as a standard option and charge $50 more for it. Now not only is the low end model $100 more, they now charge $150!! for anti glare (yes I am aware of the spec increase but it's not needed in my case thus I don't want to pay for more resolution)

I guess I will watch the refurb store for an old model with antiglare but I am disappointed that I waited 4 months for this. I know many people prefer matte screens and do not like this trend toward them being a "premium" option.

:( Man...I don't want to buy a PC but this is a real letdown.

+1!

I was excited when they added the option for matte screens months ago (even though it was an extra cost) because that meant my next computer would definitely be a Mac. $50 was worth it to me. But now we are forced to pay $150 for it!?!?! Bad move on Apple's part.

I know it's just a computer...and I know people with money to burn don't see the issue but for me coming up with the "Apple Premium" was already painful. I truly enjoy using OSX but I no longer find the pricing palatable.

Maybe I just have bad luck but it seems most companies and products are charging more and moving farther away from the features and options I prefer. For some reason my preferences always end up being changed to "premium" features later. There is nothing in the new models from my point of view that justifies the increase.

I am bummed.

There are plenty of refurbished 15" AG options in the refurb store. Perhaps one of those would still suite your needs and offer you the budget balance?

I did not see any 2.53 base models with anti glare there...only higher end models. I don't want to pay 1900 for an old generation model anymore than I want to pay that for a new one.

Honestly I don't know if I can even stomach paying the refurb price for such outdated tech. If they offered the new specs with anti glare for yesterday's price I would buy but I do not see the "upgrades" as worth the cost. The big deal breaker for me is the $150 anti glare option. The more I think about it the more frustrated I get.

Apple has really priced me out of my comfort zone.

The cheapest 15 inch AG available in the refurb store at the moment is essentially the old high-end 2.8 C2D with the 512mb video card. And it's $1989.

I too immediately checked the refurb store when I found out that getting antiglare on a 15 would be much more expensive now, but there are no older, base model 15's available with AG.

Yep...and there are probably a ton of other people thinking just like us which means the supply of what we want is going to be slim to none. Plus I am really not sure I am even willing to pay the old price for such outdated tech. Yeah it works for me now but it won't have much longevity. I feel like Apple really screwed a lot of us over with this pricing.

If your budget does not fit the purchase it's hardly apple's fault is it? I want a bmw too, but I can't aford it, should I blame them? Anti glare is pricy, but it's also hi res. Most manufacturers nowadays don't even offer the option for anti glare.

Anyway, to be constructive here, just go to ebay and get a 2 year old macbook pro say with 3 years applecare so you are covered for a hassle fee year, it'll fit your budget and it will be a great machine. And just enjoy it.

Oh give me a break. There is something called "reasonable" and it is not reasonable to keep bumping up the price of an option that should be standard like it used to be (matte). It IS Apple's fault for removing an option and then adding it back in for MORE money...that's slimy.

I CAN pay the new price I just don't feel it is fair for what I would get...I have a value standard and Apple keeps creeping up out of it by nickle and dimeing. I am not willing to part with so much money for such little additional benefit. Get it? It's kind of like how buying food WITHOUT added chemicals is now a "premium" option. Used to be standard...is removed...the reintroduced as an "upgrade"...it's nonsense.

I am also not going to buy a used computer...people want way too much for used Macs.

I expect that the cost is a function of demand (or default option). Since by default the screens are glossy, it's cheap for Apple to buy a lot of the glossy screens. Then to manufacture a limited few with matte screens is costly for them.

With Apple we should be happy we have an option. Of course I'm biased because I am going to get a glossy screen.

Like I said the business to my dislike as well has turned to glossy displays, and most other DO NOT offer you an anti glare option, simple as that, at least apple offer this option. You don't have to go "get it?" at me, this won't solve any of your problems.

Right now unfortunately it is no more standard, it is an update, that's how it works cause it seems more people want glossy, the industry has gone glossy, and apple are offering an option. Still, like I said 150 is for a HI RES screen that is anti glare too.

If you lose the attitude and try to solve your problems without bitching and acting out, you might want to buy a used computer, to fit your budget, it will have applecare so you are covered too. And you are wrong, you can find very good value for it, apple computers retain their value, but they are not "too expensive" at ebay, I know, I 've bought tones.

But then again you can prefer to bitch instead of listening to others trying to help you out a bit with your purchase decision.

I should be grateful they offer me an option that used to be standard...then was $50...but now is $150? I truly do not follow your train of thought.

Applesupergeek...go stuff it. I am not "acting out" I am frustrated and rightly so. I am sorry I insulted the shrine at which you worship. I am not sure what it is like to have my identity tied to a brand to the point that I take criticism against it personally so I am unfortunately not able to understand your point of view.

An option I would be happy with is not out there and I am clearly not the only one. I am not expecting anything unreasonable.

For crying out loud $150 is for a high res screen not just the matte, more pixels there, are you too dim to understand that or you just want to stand on people's toes pretending you are not aware of this? As for the standard bit, others and myself, have told you, the business has gone to glossy screens, what can we do, we don't like it either, at least you have an option for it, and it's going to cost you a bit because these screens are not mass manufactured as the glossy ones. Which part of all that don't you still don't get.

Please don't repeat another time that the $50 option price has gone to $150, it just friggin hasn't, the extra $100 is for a far better very high res screen, and that's that...

Oh get off it..it HAS gone to 150 because the only way to get the matte is to take that option. I don't care about a resolution bump because the standard is fine for me. The option for a standard matte screen HAS been removed. YOU made this personal but getting on my case. You are unable to see someone unhappy with your beloved brand. Apple does not need you to defend it's honor. How about you bypass threads you don't like rather than getting up the poster's back end?

You don't even know me, and you tell me to "go stuff it", and you are not acting out? I tried to offer you some suggestions to go the used mac route with a nice applecare plan, I told you I echo your sentiment about the matte going into disfavor but that's where everyone's at, at the moment, at least apple offer the option. But you prefer to be obnoxious to others, and think you are entitled to bitch regardless of facts, well, what can I say...

You didn't need to say anything. Yet you felt the compulsion to tell me why you think I am wrong. YOU came into MY thread and engaged me. Maybe you don't get the fact that in a public forum your opinion is not the only one? We are not all required to think and behave like you.

The FACT is the only way to get a matte screen from Apple is to pay the $150. I find that unacceptable. get it? If you want to pay for it fine...your choice and I have said nothing about people who choose to. I am saying I do not find it fair or reasonable to make the only option for matte a $150 premium.

Yeah I get... how can I not get it after all I 've read from you...

it upsets me more that they don't offer it in the 13"... I would be happy with a matte screen 13" model but instead I have to spend twice as much for a 15" just to get anti glare.. it sucks. and I still can't even get a damn express card slot. lame.. but I'll still get it (I think)

Good now you can move on.

Pac88 I agree. Not only did they NOT add it as an option for the 13" which many people want...they made the only option for getting it at all in a 15" cost $100 dollars more than before. It's frustrating as a customer to see the things people ask for for a long time ignored and even made worse. I really wish there was an easy way to run OSX on other platforms as I do love the OS but Apple is moving further away from the features I want.

You hear the same requests over and over....matte, express card etc and not only do they ignore them they charge MORE for what they do offer.

Well, it's an Apple game. Today gloss is standard and matte is an option (extra cost). Next release matte will become standard (same high prices) and gloss will become an option (even higher price). Apple is rolling!

I was wondering when you 'd pop by to troll this thread, nice to see you are still as sharp as per usual, and you are not skipping a beat.

I'd say for most people, whats $2500 in 4-5 years? Especially when you get the joyful experience of OSX + multitouch trackpad!

You only live once my friend! :D
