Per WSJ right now...."Apple to postpone the international launch of iPad by one month until the end of May, citing heavy U.S. demand."

Apple Media Advisory

PR Newswire

CUPERTINO, Calif., April 14

CUPERTINO, Calif., April 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --

Apple today released the following statement:

Although we have delivered more than 500,000 iPads during its first week, demand is far higher than we predicted and will likely continue to exceed our supply over the next several weeks as more people see and touch an iPad™. We have also taken a large number of pre-orders for iPad 3G models for delivery by the end of April.

Faced with this surprisingly strong US demand, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the international launch of iPad by one month, until the end of May. We will announce international pricing and begin taking online pre-orders on Monday, May 10. We know that many international customers waiting to buy an iPad will be disappointed by this news, but we hope they will be pleased to learn the reason—the iPad is a runaway success in the US thus far.

I like this: "We have also taken a large number of pre-orders for iPad 3G models for delivery by the end of April.

So forget just "ship late april"....we're getting these bad boys by the end of the month!

iPad Europe delayed until May

Just got an email from Apple stating that the iPad will not launch in Europe now until May. Assuming it was a real email.

Not just Europe, Canada and Australia were also down for a late April launch.

But I thought everyone wanted Flash? Why is demand so high for a product that doesn't do Flash?

(Probably because Flash isn't really that important after all, which must be eating away at Adobe. They can't stand to see their big internet Flash racket slowly erode before their eyes.)

You really excel at adding nothing to threads. This is entirely not neccessary nor the place for this nonsense. edit: and you're posting exactly the same rubbish in multiple threads .

On topic: bad news for everyone waiting with their credit cards. Another month to save I guess

I wonder when we'll get new official sales numbers, since they're using the demand as the reason. The Chitika tracker is up over 800k. I wonder if they're going to sell a million before the 3Gs even launch. Seems likely.

What the hell has it got to do with Flash?

Give it a rest.

Worldwide stocks diverted to the US as some of us suspected. Open the grey import flood gates!

Wonder if it's a legit shortage, or an engineered ploy to build up some techlust. Since when does Apple send out a press release for a delayed product?

I feel sorry for people in those countries who want an iPad so much and now they gotta either wait or import. That's a tough break.

Probably both.

I have no doubt some of the international inventories were sold in the US. Personally, you can't find an iPad anywhere around here, other than paying high prices on the gray market. (midwest USA)

I wonder if this is because they have found that the source of the WiFi issue is hardware related and are scrambling to fix it.

Not to mitigate the wifi issues, but I really think the majority of owners are not experiencing problems, otherwise it would be a fairly prominent news story.

Well since they have been marketing this thing like crazy, and have always given the "Late April" shipping date, I'm sure they want to let people know about the change ASAP. And it also helps them advertise their great sales so far, thus building some techlust in the process.

Oh and regarding the legitimacy of the shortage, Apple couldn't fake something like this. Their profits on the iPad will be going crazy, and they wouldn't lose on that just for the hype.

This sucks, this really sucks, this really really sucks. Late April was annoying but since I was planning in getting a 3g anyway, I didn't feel too annoyed. But this really really really sucks. Not a happy bunny.

Seems like the price on eBay just increased for the 3G.
