Is there a possibility of the iPad getting an external camera—something that fits in the 30pin port? Or a bluetooth iSight that clips on?
Sounds too clunky for Apple. —or am I wrong? |

Not sure how they came to the conclusion that a camera is coming soon. I mean they just posted the job listing right?
That should give Apple the time to find the best candidate, give him/her time to do their thing, and have the camera functionality up to snuff for next year's update. Not happening in September IMO. After all, does any one really doubt that a camera is coming in a future revision? |

To Clunky for Apple
Sounds to clunky for Apple, but if technically possible I wouldn't rule out a 3rd party potential customers 500000.

In the meantime until they come out with a camera. I found this app called Camera for iPad. It is in the itunes store. Search for it. It works ok, you need to install it on your iphone or ipod touch if you have a camera on the ipod, and also install it on the iPad. Then turn both apps on, and the bluetooth will sync with each other. Then whatever you point your iphone at and take a picture the picture appears on your iPad not on your iPhone.
I have used it a few times. Pretty good for now. It is only 99 cents. Pictures are taken at full resolution of your iPhone. Works with 3G and 3Gs iphones and iPod Touch.

No way if they're just looking to hire someone now, that an iPad with camera is coming this fall. Who writes these articles?

Agreed. Considering that the worldwide launch isn't going to happen until late May, that would leave a little over three months before a refresh. They'd be absolutely nuts to piss that many people off. It's not going to happen.
Whenever a new iDevice comes out, I usually purchase the highest-end model. That way, when the inevitable followup comes out, I can sell it and buy the newest version. I think many people take the opposite approach- buying the lowest-end model- and when they try to sell it, they make little money because there is a flood of them. I purchased the original iPhone about 6 months after it's launch. Since then, I've upgraded to the highest-end iPhone each year, day of release, and haven't spent a penny out of pocket. In fact, when I sold my original iPhone, I actually MADE money to upgrade. Apple products hold their value very, very well. Once, I even sold a MBA that had been run over by a number of cars for $900! I expect the value-reatinment to be similar with the iPad. |

Has it ever occur to people that this might mean an external tethered camera/webcam and not a built-in camera? It's a possibility that can't be ruled out for the 1st gen iPad.

As noted in the comments on the 9to5 link, the job posting is for a software position. That could mean anything, including someone to develop the camera connection software.
I could see a front facing camera being cool, but do we really need yet another device that takes non-chat pictures? My phone has a camera. My MacBook has a camera. Nanos have cameras. My 3 cameras all have cameras. I can't think of anything more ridiculous than seeing someone running around a park with a 10" slab of aluminum taking crappy snapshots, then trying desperately to see the picture on the glossy screen outdoors, probably by putting it under their shirt. They will either get mugged or just punched; probably both. |
