Early 2k9 iMac external monitor resolution question

Hi there, thank you for reading. I'm in the process of replacing my MBP with an early 2k9 iMac as my DAW machine. I'm shopping around for external monitors, and I'm leaning a 27" monitor that naively displays 2048 x 1152.

My question is, if I get a dual link dvi cable- will my iMac be able to display this resolution on an external monitor?

That's for the current iMac, which sports a mini display port and is capable of doing what I need it to. I have an early 2k9 iMac which only has a mini dvi port.

And crap. Looks like I just found my answer on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mini-DVI

"Mini-DVI does not support dual-link connections and hence cannot support resolutions higher than 1920x1200 @60Hz."

Oh well I guess I'll just buy a 27" screen that does 1920x1200 natively.

according every mac .com it can and it has a mini display port if its a early 2009 model easy to recognise 4 usb ports and 1 firewire port at the back otherwise identical with the 2008 models which only have a mini dvi port and 2 firewire and 3 usb :

Apple reports that this model simultaneously supports the native resolution of the built-in display and up-to a 30-inch external display (2560x1600).

So 30 in display support is reasonable.

I'll check when I get home. I actually already own it, I bought one used with a dead hard drive and replaced the hard drive myself. A side note, it's amazing how it's put together, and the edges of the bevel are incredibly sharp.
