2010 MBP Freeze issue i5 / i7 hd issue maybe

Hey ,

So my MBP i7 with a 500GB 7200 rpm disk. The system has been freezing randomly for up to 20 - 35 seconds at a time, the same as many other people on here.

i have used superduper to clone my disk to a usb hd.

I have not had 1 single freeze so far running of the usb drive. I boot back to the internal drive and with in minutes i get a freeze.

This is just what i have found, would be good if anyone else with the freeze issue could try the same.

My hdd is

Model Number: ST9500420ASG
Revision : 0008APM2
serial : 5VJ5AN23


just wondering if all the people that have this issue have the same hard drive ??????
 
No offense but I hate seeing threads like this.

If you think its a hard drive issue.. test it. Go get a new notebook 2.5 inch hard drive and replace the one you have now and see if that fixes the issue.

if it does, then we know its specific to the HDD that ships with the MBPs. If you still have the issue after you put in a new HDD, then we know the problem lies elsewhere.

This is the only Computer Forum online that people have no idea about the technical aspects of a computer.

Please, instead of asking us... figure it out by doing some testing with other hard drives, and then report back with results.
 
so iBunny, in the third post you can see that I have tested it and confirmed it had fixed the issue. No need to get all narky about it I was just posting what I had found.

Sorry for bothering you.

I though the internet was supposed to be a place where you change talk about issues and try and find a resolution.

Glad to hear it fixed your issue.... Hopefully Big :apple: will fix the issue then for free

It is NOT about HDD. It still happens with Seagate's and Hitachi's ones. And some tried a Black Scropio from WD, and same problem too.
This is what at the beggining everyone thought.
Right now, Apple it's doing some "investigations" to know the problem.
Call Apple, make RMA, send it back and of course, you will be "prompted" to use your machine as a "test lab" computer.

I'm gonna open an RMA tomorrow for mine.

Your drive is the G-Force version which provides it's own sudden motion sensor. Have you tried disabling the MacBook/OSX sudden motion sensor? If not, then you should do so.
