Download apps directly to iPad?

I'm still on a reserve list waiting for my iPad, but what I want to know is can you download apps directly into the iPad or do all downloads have to go thru iTunes?
Thanks for a reply 

You must not have iPhone or iTouch either?

Yes, you can download via the appStore, right on the device. Next time you sync, it will also transfer to your computer.
