YouTube.com's HTML5 player looks awful

I don't quite understand why the HTML5 player on YouTube looks so bad, yet the HTML5 player on embedded YouTube videos looks good. Seems like embedded videos use the iPad's built in video GUI or something. It would seem smart to use the same player on their own site that they use for embedded videos.

Some examples...

Embedded video on Gizmodo. Simple and sleek player overlay:

Thumb resize.

Even lets you fullscreen. Just like watching a video stored locally on your iPhone/iPad:

Thumb resize.

Nasty looking player overlay on the same video at youtube.com:

Thumb resize.

Buttons overlapping and unaligned or other graphic defects. Can't fullscreen but can increase the video size similar to on a computer:

Thumb resize.

New google services are always in the beta stage. They like to test new services publicly. Hence google labs. Plus it allows then to seamlessly add new features.

Just Curious?? why do you want to use youtube in the browser rather than n the APP???

in case you feel the app is buggy, just use your safari or atomic browser to go to the youtube mobile page, the player is as you see on embedded youtube videos.

You can't set your preferred location in the YouTube app, as far as I know. I prefer the Worldwide version to my local one so I use the web version most of the time.

For one, if I'm surfing the web, click a YouTube link and would rather quickly go to the site rather than get bumped into a new app, and then when I'm done watching the video, go back to my browser. Two, better search options.

It could be an issue with YouTube not detecting your user agent properly when using Atomic Browser. Have you tried this with Safari to see if you have the same problem?
