3d printed iPad wrap
so i'm an apple user and an industrial designer and have been playing around with 3D printing. So i came up w/ a simple design to at least protect the corners and back of my ipad. I've received the 1st print of my initial design and have been using it for 2 weeks now. http://jbaredesign.squarespace.com/d...-received.html i've tweaked a couple issues and have been making a list of features I'd like to see in it that i can add down the road.
such as: -kick stand- maybe 2 angles- i see the need for a low angle for typing (landscape only) and a higher angle for viewing - (landscape & portrait both if possible) -magnets, i could see the use of integrating magnets on the four corners of the back so i can throw this up on the fridge maybe when i'm cooking, or at work it should stick to the metal cubical wall... anybody else like this magnet idea? - maybe integrating a clip for my stylus (don't tell apple) the stylus is used for sketching with sketchbook pro - maybe integration with a custom dock for in my car. this is never going to be mass produced or anything, but one of 3d printing's benefits is that customization is cheap. so if there are specific functions you are looking for let me know, chances are someone else might like it too. but reactions/opinions would be great. you can actually get this printed yourself at http://www.shapeways.com/model/11260...rotection.html thats the current generation (its 30 bucks), but if there are a couple features you want in it let me know and i can update it.

new pattern
So i've updated the design a good bit and added a new pattern to my 3d printed ipad case. After using it for the past two months it has held up great and kept my ipad safe from scratches. It is a minimal case- others will protect it better, but it gives it a stable base when you lay it down and protects the corners & surfaces.
Plus your hands still are on the actual iPad so you can still feel the engineered aluminum and glass. I slip it in a sleeve when its in my bag for travel, and it just stays in this 3d printed case 24/7. also it works well with most stands/docks since it doesn't cover the sides. It's manufactured on demand for $50 @ http://www.shapeways.com/model/14265...p___block.html more info & video here: http://jbaredesign.squarespace.com/canvas-wrap-block/
