Whats the best place to get repair parts from?

My girlfriend dropped her 3GS and shattered the glass, LCD is fine. Anyone have suggestions on the best place to get repair parts? I want original Apple OEM parts not some Korean knockoff - i was looking at iFixit.com and ubreakifix.com. iFixit has for 69.95 and comes with a free 25 piece or something toolkit - and i trust their parts are legit.

I personally recommend going through Apple as if it still has issues later on and your iPhone is still in warranty you will keep that warranty. If you do it yourself it will void it completely. Yes it is more expensive than the 69.95 but definitely worth it for warranty purposes IMO

In my personal experience, very wise advice.

My iMac (out of warranty) recently developed a fault which appeared to be related to the power supply. I checked on prices of parts etc but, due to pressure of work, took it to our local Apple approved service centre. They checked it out and diagnosed a fault in the main logic board. Their quote was quite acceptable (the price of the board was no more expensive to one I could have purchased myself) and when the work was done I had a machine with a new 90 day Apple warranty.

The moral of this? It may cost a bit more but, unless you really know what you are doing (and judging from the many sad stories on this and other fora - few do!), it's just not worth the risk of voiding your warranty which will mean more expense in the long run.

thanks for the moral support guys but I wasn't asking if I should do it myself or if I was capable...

Back to my previous question - where can I get legitimate OEM apple hardware?

Go to the Apple site and look under "Support". There you'll find locations of your local Authorised Service Providers. They'll certainly be able to help you.

wow, once again the think tank known as macrumors forums comes through with a bunch of retarded bla bla.

he's obviously not asking for apple to hold his hand, he's asking for a place to buy replacement parts.

ithinkitsbroken.com
ifixit.com

are the two i would trust and have used.

replacing a display on an iphone 1.) isn't hard 2.) isn't traceable to apple.

no as its not hard to do and isnt traceable, most of the people that replace the screens by DIY have to replace them again and again. Thats why i referred to getting it done through Apple. DIY is fine but im just saying imo to go through them and also if you DIY and later decide that something else needs to be fixed they arent going to do it.

Good Luck with replacement!!

Amazon.com; make sure you buy the correct glass, but it is really cheap less than $20 bucks. They also come with the tools to do the repair. I use Amazon.com for my business when I need to fix iPhones.

he didnt ask about the merits of having it officially replaced.

Got my parts, repaired in about 25 mins. Took a little longer because the screen was shattered, not just cracked so shards had to be removed. All in all, simple repair. You would be an idiot to pay 199 for a repair like this to apple. Thanks h4ck for the support and info. Thinking about making up some flyers to fix screens for people like iPhone3Gusr and John T. $150 sound like a good price? LOL

Try rapidrepair.com, I just ordered a replacement back panel for my iPod 4G and was very impressed with the service, the product and the very short amount of time it took to get to me here in the UK, as far as I can see it's an OEM part and I'm very satisfied with it.

Good luck!
