Yes, there is a degree key. In Appleworks to print the degree symbol simply hold down the option key and press the "0" (zero) key.
You can see all the various alternate keys available by clicking on the Apple in the menu bar and selecting "Key Caps". You will then see a keyboard displayed. Hold down the option key and you will see all the available symbols such as © å ¥ ñ ® and others. Hope this helps you.
