Can Linux machines act as OD clients in a mac network?

If so,

1. Which versions of Linux work best for this
2. Can the Linux machines be configured in such a way that users are prompted to log into the machine, and the credentials are passed to the OSX OD server?

Yes

OD uses standard LDAP so any tutorial on how to hook LInux up to an ldap system will be applicable. Virtually every distro contains ldap support, so any major distro should be fine.

The only thing I ever had problems with was trusted binding, and I fixed it by not doing trusted binding.
