chud confusion

I've been hearing some chirping on my powerbook lately, (not the hardrive clicking) and when I searched it here, it was recommended that I install CHUD and turn "nap" off? As in, unchecking it right? Then, I read that by doing that you're making your powerbook hotter and in result the fan would turn on more often. So, since I can't make any computer decisions on my own, should I uninstall CHUD completely, or keep it around. (will I need it for anything?) uncheck "nap," or check "nap." What does what?
