MBA wont turn on unless you unplug the battery.

Hi All,

The other day when i plugged my friends iphone into my MBA it shut off instantly and wouldn't turn back on unless i unplugged the battery and held the power button down to drain power from the motherboard.

It was working for a little while again, then it happened again this morning while i was using it.

Anyone have any ideas what is wrong with it?

EDIT: i have also tried the SMC reset to no avail.
