Are you sure it went from Taiwan to Alaska to Taiwan to Newark? I checked the status of mine today. The actual flightpath (for mine, anyway) was Taiwan to Alaska to Indianapolis.

However, because you cross the international date line when flying from Taiwan to Alaska, the FedEx tracking info actually lists the departure from Taiwan as being an hour *after* it departed Anchorage for Indianapolis.

So if you read the FedEx tracking info in strict order, it looks as though it went from Taiwan to Anchorage to Taiwan to Indianapolis, but that's just a false impression due to the date line confusing the tracking software.
