On Apple's website the specs on the iPhone 4 claim UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz) and also GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz).

Now in the US the T-Mobile 3G network supports both the 1700 MHz and 2100 MHz frequencies so called AWS or UMTS IV band.

Doesn't this imply that the new iPhone 4 should be capable of connecting to virtually any GSM 3G network including T-Mobile's 3G network? What do you guys think?

NO - you need BOTH UMTS 1700 and UMTS 2100 to work with Tmobile's network. This is why I find it so stupid that USA networks are built like this. No other country uses what TMobile US network is using.

Same thing with CDMA technology in the USA - I'd never buy a non-GSM/non-3G compatible device because it's simply worthless (since I move in and out of the country).
