Combo Drive has crapped itself
It's not recognising anything, cd or dvd. I'm hoping there is a solution related to software, as I'm out of warranty and don't want to have to pay to fix the hardware..

Yes, there is no problem there. I can open and close it easy.
After inserting a CD, it just spits it out. And it's not a problem with the preferences panels either. They're all set to open an app or the finder if I enter a CD or DVD |

I probably should have mentioned that I've got a g4 flat panel iMac 800mhz with a combo drive..

i know this doesn't solve anything but have you considered an aftermarket DV-107 dvd burner? http://eshop.macsales.com/Static_Pag...le=SuperDrives
