i have seen loads of them on ebay how much did you pay?

I've seen stacks of 50 g5's in the uk on ebay, just a pitty they wanted like £20,000

I don't recall specific dates, but in no particular order:

- 2006: iBook G4 14" 1.42Ghz, Mac Mini 1.66Ghz CoreDuo
- 2007: MacBook 2.0Ghz (SuperDrive, 1Gb)
- 2008: MacMini 1.83Ghz Core2Duo (used off a friend)
- 2009: MacBook 2.26Ghz Late '09, B&W G3 300Mhz (for free!)
- 2010: iMac G4 700Mhz

All of the Mactels have been sold in the last few years. I think I was always looking for something to fill the shoes of the iBook G4, which I foolishly returned after having paid a mint for it and not being told that new MacBooks were on the way (that would have been in December '05). That machine, despite it's supposedly inferiority performance wise, was a great companion. I could leave it asleep all day on battery and only end up with 3% less battery power than what I started with. All the MacBooks I've owned can chew through 10% or more in a day of sleep. The matte screen was also a joy to use outdoors (and incidentally, as we've learned in recent years, the G4 case doesn't disintegrate around the palm rests).

When I go back to school in the fall, I'm either going to look for a bigger and faster iMac G4, or a MDD PowerMac, and use this iMac in the living as a guest computer for Facebooking and for playing music/movies. Not that it doesn't deserve a space on my desk, I just am liking the idea of the MDD, from an upgradeability perspective, and the idea that I'm not totally screwed if the internals of the iMac decide to stop liking the LCD for whatever reason. Not sure how common an issue that is, or how long these LCDs last for, but it is in the back of my mind. But I have a backup either way. Also, if I need a laptop, I'm going to go looking for my previous G4 iBook model or a Clamshell. Yeah, the Clamshell is now ancient, but they're cool looking machines, and I'd only need it for word processing. If my B&W G3 is any indication, OpenOffice still manages alright on these machines.

1986- Apple IIc- 65C02 Processor, 256 KB RAM (upgraded), 5.25" Floppy Disk Drive. My first computer... not a Mac, but still my favorite computer. Mandatory software: Broderbund word processor, EA Games "Strikefleet", Zork, Planetfall, Top Fuel Eliminator, Karateka.

1988- Macintosh SE- 68000 Processor, 20 MB HDD. The family computer. Our first Mac.

1995- Macintosh 5200 LC. The family computer. Singlehandedly drove our family to Windows. Yes, it was that bad. My Dad finally is considering returning to the Mac, 15 years later...

2005- iMac G5 2.0 GHz, 2 GB RAM (upgraded), 250 GB HDD, OS X 10.5 (upgraded from Tiger). The machine that brought us back to Mac. Still chugging away in our den, still used extensively by my wife and I. I use it to manage my iTunes library and get in a quick game of "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic."

2006- G4 iBook 12", 1.33 GHz, 1 GB RAM, 40 GB HDD, OS X 10.4. Bought it for grad school, ended up owning it for almost four years. My road warrior machine (went with me to 9 states, 3 continents, 5 countries, countless conferences and meetings- tireless machine). Given to my step-sister last year.

2009- MacBook 2.0 GHz C2D, 4 GB RAM (upgraded), 320 GB HDD Scorpio Blue (upgraded), OS X 10.6. My new road warrior machine.

iPad 16GB 3G not a mac, but does my mobile computing nicely.

I sold the Mac Mini about a month ago for £100, which means I only lost £260 or so in 5 years from it! The iBook and MacBook went to my sister which she systematically destroyed

I used tons of Macs at work but having one at home didn't happen until the 1990s. Before that I had several Amiga computers (remember them) and old Commodore 64 and 128s. I'm not including any PC or Linux boxes for clarity.

1996 sometime:
Performa 6400/180 (136 megs of ram)

1999 sometime:
PowerMac G4/400 (Sawtooth) (2 gigs of ram) (my first OS X machine!)

2005 summer:
G5 2.5 dual (8 gigs of ram)

My wife has had more Macs than me - how did that work out?

1996:
Shared the performa with me.

1999 sometime:
iMac DV SE (400 mhz G3)

2002 Upgraded to:
iMac Snow Edition (600 mhz G3)

-she dumped this quickly because she couldn't watch movies on the CD-R only drive...

2004 Upgraded to:
iMac 17" Lamp Style (1.25 ghz G4) with Superdrive and 768 megs of ram

2009 Upgraded to
iMac 21" (3.06 ghz Core2Duo) with 4 gigs of ram and 1.25 TB of disc

I guess I'm due for a replacement next...

2000(ish)
When I was 4 or 5 my father bought a iMac G3... I think it was blue. I loved it and I used to play this dinosaur game or something. It has OS Classic on it and always crashed. My dad got rid of it and from then on said that Apple computers were stupid.

2007 (or 2008)
After much whining and convincing, I finally convinced my dad to get a iMac... it was a new (non-white) one but was open box for we saved about $400. I immediatly loved it (Photobooth!). My dad now likes Apple (he has a iPhone), but still like Linux better ... when my parents split my dad took the iMac, so I only see it about every week ... Named it Baurus.

2009
After much begging, my mom finally got me a iMac G4 (the lampy one). I loved it! After about 4 months though he died. ( It's name was Lampy... original )

2010.
Just got 2 iMacs G3 and a G3 Tower (I think its a Yikes). Currently playing around with them. The green iMac is named Shrek... and the blue iMac is named Blueberry... I cant remember the towers name...

I'm only 13, but then again my dad always had macs, i have all but two of my dad's old macs (mac plus, powermac g4, powermac g5)and he gave me his ibook g3 cus i kept going on about how i wanted a laptop

my timeline is very short and i cant remember the exact dates
but it all started august 2009 to now with
eMac 1.42 ghz ,
after that came a iMac g3 with 600mhz ,
another iMac g3 with 700mhz ,
then a powermac 5500/275 ,
then another eMac 1.42 ,
then a mini G4 with 1.42 ghz
and then it topped with a TAM in may 2010
but more will follow soon ,next on my list to get is a cube

My wife had an Amiga 3000T as a computer when she was a child. Played Monkey Island, Settlers, and Loom on it. As of 2009, it still worked, but her stepdad gave it away apparently. Pretty unfortunate, because as it turns out, the 3000T was heinously expensive and thus pretty rare. It was also one massive beast of a tower (easily 50lbs or more).

But I digress, we were talking Macs.

I still have two 1000's down in my basement, one still in its original box.

They're in pretty bad shape though.

Early 1997
Performa 6200@160MHz with maxed out RAM – expensive as hell, IIRC.

Late 1999
iMac G3@400MHz with 128MB RAM, I think I maxed that out a year later though (512MB? I don't remember).

Late 2002
iBook G3@800MHz with 128MB of RAM which I think I put a 512MB stick in to max out.
PowerMac G4@Dual 1.25GHz with RAM upgraded to 2GB sometime between then and 2003.

Early 2004
iMac G4@1.25GHz with 256MB RAM upgraded to 768MB in 2004 and then 1.25GB RAM in 2010 as I had a spare 1GB stick.

Early 2005
PowerMac G5@Dual 2.5GHz upgraded to 6GB RAM.

Mid 2005
PowerBook G4@1.5GHz and upgraded to 2GB RAM in 2006, I opted for the 15" but regretted after hearing the 12" was so portable. However, I believe the 12" G4's memory capacity was lower. I was also disappointed by the absence of a possible PowerBook G5.

Late 2008
MacBook@2.1GHz with 1GB RAM upgraded to 4GB RAM early 2009. I decided it was finally time to get an Intel Mac.

I also had one of those old beige G3 towers for a short time when they were first released, but I can't remember the specs – 300~MHz (maybe 333).
