How do I get my Movies onto my iPad?!

I have several movies I have ripped to my PS3, via the handbrake PS3 preset. I also have several TV episodes recorded in an AVI format, but neither will sync with my iPad! I have done some reading around and have seen people take the files back into handbrake and convert them for appleTV. When I do this it strips the audio away for some reason, so I'm looking for better options.

Why doesn't the iPad like my files? Does it have to do with the 6 channel audio? I was hoping itunes would automatically optimize the movies for the ipad.. what the easiest way to convert the files??

take a look at the Apple website what the IPad likes ...

for Audio you can use Subler or Avidemux to just convert the Audio

or look at AirVideo

You can't sync avi videos to your iPad.

Subler is good for mkvs. For streaming you should try the airvideo app.

Suckage. Is a re-rip from the DVDs an option? Would probably be most straightforward and take about the same time as a conversion I'd guess.

1) is it my audio thats giving me the problems?
2) is there no way to get my .AVI's on it?

If you are on windows just use dvd43 and handbrake - so simple and easy to rip DVDs or convert video to the proper format.

There's an app called yxplayer that purports to allow avis to play. Be warned the quality is not great.

On the audio question... Just strip the audio, convert to aac and then add it back to your mp4.

so it sounds like converting my current files is a pain in the butt. I guess I will just leave it alone and start ripping my DVD's in two formats..

Im not sure how to strip out the audio, convert it, and add it back in. Everything I try takes at least an hour to do on my MBP...

Anyway you rip the quality will degrade in the conversion to an iPad readable format.

Stream them through air video every time, trust me just try it once and you will be happy.

Ok, I have a DVD I want to put on the iPad. I have had break. I have the settings from above.

So, what is the purpose of Streaming it through air video? How is that supposed to work? Is Air Video and Air Video Free the same thing?

Sorry if this is a noob question...I did use the search feature...which is how I found this...and the first couple of threads I read found said, "Use the search"...so if there is a better thread I should have found, please feel free to link in! Perhaps it could be made into a sticky!!

There is still conversion involved in the streaming process.

Air Video Free is a trial version. I think it might not display all the videos in a folder, but it's good for a test run.

The purpose of streaming through Air Video is that you don't need to have the file stored on your iPad and you can watch the video using 'live conversion' (which means it plays as it converts). You can also use the 'convert' function to actually create a new file on your computer that you can later add to your iPad (in which case you won't need to stream it)

So, I let it stream while I am at home...then it will be on the iPad? What happens the next time I sync? Will it be transferred to iTunes?
