Safari: Where did my back/forward buttons go?

Hi all,
So I just noticed that my back and forward buttons have dissapeared in Safari. I went through preferances and I couldn't find anything. I must have hit something without knowing. Anyone know where the switch is to get them back?

On the same note, the exact same thing happens with my favorites toolbar. It just appears and dissapears randomly, I'd like to know what I am doing to switch it.

I'm not sure why they are disappearing and reappearing, but you can turn them back on from the View menu. For the back/forward buttons, choose View->Back/Forward and for the bookmarks bar, choose View->Bookmarks Bar (command-B).
