iPhone 3G with iOS4 JB'd, now I need TETHERING

I've successfully JB'd this 3G with redsn0w 0.9.5 beta on my wife's phone. I'm using it as a test device

I used to use this method to enable tethering (line 8 has link) with OS 3.1.3. But it's not working now. The tethering option appeared after first installing and restarting, but now it will not reappear or work.

What options do we have with iOS4 JB? Does anyone know for usre if any option is under the Deathstar radar?

I tried using Redsnow with 4.0's release date and it won't work.

worked fine with the GM ispw... What did you do to make it work?

I have heard pda net works on 4.0 but mywi does not.

You can use mywi through rock on 3.1.3.

None of the 3.0+ hacks will work to enable native tethering neither MyWi.
I heard the latest pdanet from cydia still works on 4.0

It's JB'd and (so far) running okay. I've switched apps a few times. Is that the backgrounding? So far, switching apps is fine on this 3G.

I downloaded and installed iTunes 9.2, iOS4, redsn0w 0.9.5 beta and the iPhone1,2_4.0_8A293_Restore.ipsw. I pointed to this ipsw using redsn0w.

When I selected to change both the "Lock Screen" and the "Home Screen", it only changed the Home Screen (Springboard).

And if I double click the Home button, it allows me to change apps. Is that he multitasking? Sorry, need to brush up on the new features

I'm getting an error in redsn0w that says it's unable to recognize the ipsw...Im using the one that itunes downloaded when it upgraded my un-jailbroken 3G to iOS4.

Any ideas?

I think you have to point it to the goldmaster and not the one released today.

Just unlock your iPhone 4.0 OS and enter Internet Tethering settings in Settings->Genral->Network. It worked for me. (I used Redsn0w to unlock)

Are you using the official iOS or the GM (some people are saying this makes a difference...)? Can anyone else confirm that this works?

This is the first time I've ever jailbroken a phone, and I did it so I can tether. It sounds like PDANet is the way to go, but when I click on it in Cydia I get:

Unknown
Note: Cannot Locate Package

And that seems to be the case with a lot of other Cydia Apps as well.

How do I find the missing apps?

get a program called "mywi" from cydia it will solve your tethering issues

MyWi doesn't appear to be free, now does that solve my issue of being unable to find certain apps.

Solved it by uninstalling MyWi. So yeah... that was a bad idea.

Yes - as long as you are working on a 3G and not a 3GS. 3GS is another story entirely and not ready to use iOS 4.0 if you plan on jailbreaking and/or unlocking.

I had to upgrade my iPhone 3g from 3.1.3 to 4.0 and then start redsn0w. This was really a test for me since I haven't used a jailbreak since the first iPhone. But I plan on selling this 3G to help defray the cost of a new iPhone 4 - I figure jailbreaking it and unlocking it will add to resell value.

Finally got PDANet only to discover that you can't use it to tether to an iPad.

Any word on when MiWi is going to be updated for 4.0?

Yes, PDA is only thru usb or BT.
No wifi tethering.
