I am watching Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory with my son on ABC Family. Steve Jobs is Willy Wonka.

The iPhone 4 is the Wonka Bar. 5 iPhone 4s have golden tickets.

Let use know if you find a golden ticket, it could change your life.

Does that make Bill Gates Slugworth?

Nope.

Slugworth works for Willy.

Jonny Ive is Slugworth...the one who helped develop the everlasting gobst...er...iPhone 4.

But he's watching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory which has no "Slugworth" character.

That's the old version. "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory."

Bill Gates didn't give away his kingdom, but Steve might.

Yeah I am watching the old one. It's the Everlasting Gobstopper.

The new one was just on previously.

Oh, I thought he said he was watching Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

And who knows, Bill could be working for Steve.

Man do I look forward to the day Steve ditches the black turtle neck for a purple dinner jacket and top hat!

Actually Bill Gates is giving away half his kingdom to the poor.
Steve is giving nothing....

He's giving headaches to iPhone and Mac owners. That should count.

Personally, I think he's a bit of Willy, but more of a Wanka.

Slugworth is the competitor to Willy Wonka and will pay handsomely for a gobstoper....

Windows anyone?

Source? Steve Jobs is rumored to donate vast sums anonymously.

"As of 2007, Bill and Melinda Gates were the second most generous philanthropists in America, having given over $28 billion [half his net-worth] to charity." - BusinessWeek

Gates with Warren Buffett has approached US billionaires a few weeks ago and asked them to match his efforts and donate half their wealth to charity.

Since we are sourcing, what are your sources? I have no doubt SJ donates to charity, but isn't a bit ironic that the man who has the image of an evil capitalist big brother (Bill Gates) is giving away his wealth and the one who is supposedly a free-thinker hippie power to the people (SJ) is not?

No, see I asked for a source from you that says Steve Jobs doesn't give over any of his kingdom. You provided a source that says Bill and Melinda Gates are publicly philanthropic to an extraordinary extent. I never disagreed with that part of your point, just asked how you knew Steve Jobs wasn't philanthropic to public satisfaction.

I really enjoyed the part about the image of evil capitalist big brother and free-thinker hippie power to the people. My response to that is it isn't ironic or unintentional that Bill Gates is donating a large portion of his worth to charity, but it's precisely the type of publicity that is required from the wealthiest man in the world. When Steve Jobs is in that position (aka never) I'd expect the same open display of philanthropy as well.

I said it was rumored Jobs donates anonymously. I could look for sources but if it says Anonymous I can never satisfy your request. Maybe that's the difference between Bill Gates and Steve Jobs. Food for thought. :D

Okay Slugworth is Wilkinson, Wonka's test for honesty.

This would imply that Bill Gates actually works for Steve Jobs.

Bill Gates = Jonny Ive

Funny, I watched it tonight too. As soon as I saw this thread I was going to say "Someone was watching the ABC Family channel tonight". :p

When the billionaire Steve Jobs gives 1/2 his wealth away, I will have a new respect for him. It is rumored that he gives nothing at all to charity.

Ohhh Yeah...

I paid $22 from Borders for the original Willy Wonka movie. Mostly because I thought it was a rare going out of print dvd. And then to my shame I saw so many after the new movie came out. I swore not to do that again.

Now, interesting enough I still like watching movies broadcasted live. There's something about the broadcast that makes a movie more desirable to watch.

As much as people like to hate on Microsoft, don't hate on Bill Gates. He's doing some very incredible things for the less fortunate of the world...

Willy Wonka was arrogant. Believed in magic. Had amazing technology. Everyone wanted his goods. They all had trouble with his secret experiments.

I wonder who that sounds like.

Are Chinese like Umpa Lumpas?

Well said! I'm not on either side, simply a close observer of various companies in the tech sector. Gates is a rather conventional, ethical businessman. Jobs is a bit unethical, dark, and shifty. An example is how he violated customary practices in failing to notify the board & others about his planned absence for an organ transplant. Had something unfortunate happened, many people would have paid a heavy price. The consequences to the company & share holders would have been very negative. Not to mention the legal ramifications. Obviously he could care less. It's all about Steve.
