Apple Online Store and Retail Store - return/service policy?

If I get my phone from Apple Online UK, can I
  1. bring it into a UK Apple Retail Store for warranty service?
  2. bring it into a UK Apple Retail Store for refund?

(I found this post, but the answers seem contradictory - yes you can vs if the manager is nice vs only for store credit).

Don't know about returns but they should certainly do warranty repairs/replacements
