I am thinking of Virtual PC for my new imac g5.
Will it work for that?
I had V PC 2.1 (anyone want it-free) years ago and it never worked for my g3 imac. Macwarehouse sold it to me with my computer and I found that I didnt have the harddrive capacity or something. I was steamed.
I want to open power point cds and my kids want to play windows games.
Should I save my money?

It will work.
It is slow.
Powerpoint may work, but
Games are pointless on Virtual PC.

There are a ton of threads on this, if you search you'll find a lot of info.

Thanks Lee, I think I will avoid it even though there is a pretty good deal on ebay right now.

It's fine for business apps like TurboTax, MS Office, etc. I've used VPC 6.1 on my G4 PowerBook for a couple of years and it has done the job for me. As most will tell you though, it won't run 3D games is a useable way. If all you want to do is play Solitaire or something, then that'll work.

If you already have a copy of Windows98 SE or Windows 2000, then just buy the version sans Windows and install what you already have. The older versions of Windows run better under VPC than XP does.

Ooooh. Maybe.... can you give some more info on it?

I use VPC 6.1 on my powerbook. Useable for basic stuff... not much more than that.

I think you would be disappointed.
Gaming is out of the question.

Most people that use VPC do so for a specific application and reason.

I use it for running a VPN to connect with work.
Unfortunately I bought the XP version and it is incredibly slow.
If you opt to get it, do get the lowest Windows version you need.
Win 98 would probably run best.
 
I'm gonna get Vpc 7 with my pb... I'm only goin 2 use it 4 the net, programmin in VB and VB.NET... and thats proberly it... Don't use VirtualPC for Gaming.... it wasn't designed for that...
