It's my birthday... and I didn't buy my first iPod.

Boo-hoo...

Birthday today.
Fantastic dinner tonight in town with friends...

This morning, shifted the cash from savings to cheque account.
Money burning a hole in purse... wanted (and felt I deserved) a new 60gb photo iPod, colour screen etc... lunchtime visit to several shops.

Not released here yet in UK. Damn.

Do I get the 40gb vanilla model? Do I wait?
All spontaneous impulse-spending fun gone...

Nothing...

Except three Bloody-Marys, dinner and a laugh with old mates 🙂

Do I wait or get the 40gb one now? Music library almost 35gb already.

60gb, colour screen, 15 hours of battery vs. immediate iPod gratification...

If you really want the 60GB then wait for it. You don't want to rush into it, get the 40GB then down the road wished you would have waited for the 60GB. So I would wait, IMO.

BTW: 35GB of music? 😱

Get the 60. Color, 20 extra gig - and only 50% more than the 4G 40GB 😉.

If you don't get it, you will wish you did - until the 5G's (or the 6Gs, if the iPorns/"iPod Photos" are the 5Gs) come out.
 
wait till the regent street store opens, go to the grand opening, and do your spending there...
you'll want the 60GB in a few months... i know...

I would wait... I know it is a real downer to not be able to buy what you want, when you want it.

Sorry to rub it in - but I got one as belated gift from the wife. 😀 😀

She asked me to go to the mall with her and the kids - a place that I absolutely hate. But they do have an Apple store there. While lounging around the A store - she asked me to go ahead an pick up a new 60GB iPod. (She had called ahead to make sure that they had one in stock). I could not be happier. It was a combined b'day and anniversary gift, and the best that I have ever received. My third iPod in one year, but that is another story.

Not a big dog for long

In January of this year, for my Birthday, I arranged to get myself a top of the line big dog 3G 40 Gig iPod. It was great. I thought I had an iPod I would never outgrow. I was wrong. I now have so much music, 90 gigs, that it won't fit on the ipod. So i'm picking and choosing. So, I think, if I'm picking and choosing, I might as well have a mini. And I back up iPhoto to my iPod as it is, so having photo viewing ability would be great. But, since I spent so much on the iPod, there is no way I can rationalize a new iPod.

So, my point is this, figure out exactly what you want, and what you will use it for. Don't be seduced just b/c something is the top of the line product.

Unless of course you've got deep pockets. In that case, go to town.

Am going to wait till the new one gets here -- a new day brings the mature reflection & wisdom of being a year older...

But I still want it now, goddammit!

Happy Birthday Blue Velvet, the good thing is that you had a good time with friends. If you are not in a hurry for a new iPod, then I also think your should wait. It should make your new ipod all the sweeter.
