:apple:So i have a new 21.5 inch imac i got on April 21st and i have noticed often the internet is so slow it takes like 3 minutes to go on facebook and about 3 minutes to go on youtube i have no idea what to cuz i have my own mac and my paretns do not no ANYTHING about computers i just got a mac cuz it was my birthday can you plz help me!!!!

well i am right across from the room were my old computer is and its just a plain old PC and no it happens with all sites including his one and we have like super speed internet and my mac is using wireless but my parents PC is directly conneted to the router and i am not dowlading anything cu this has been happening for the past 3 weeks and i'll try speed test
 
Try www.speedtest.net and post the results.

Also look at Applications / Utilities / Activity Monitor >Network.

Taking screenshots in Mac OS X. - CMD+SHIFT+4 is a better suit for taking screenshots, as it lets you select the area you want to shoot.
 
Did you have issues with your old computer? Does it happen with only certain sites? How fast is your internet connection? Are you using wired or wireless connection? Any downloads going on?

You need to give more details, otherwise it's impossible to help
 
If you're situated too far from the wireless base station that can cause a slow down, but probably not for 3 minutes, it would eventually cut off periodically.

If you download from torrents then it's your internet provider slowing you down.

Run speedtest and let us know the results, you can take a screenshot of the results by pressing CMD + Shift + 3 at the same time, then upload the screenshot using the "attach"

Do you upload any data with your Mac?

Have you tried to reset the browser you use? Have you tried another browser? Have you tried a wried connection to your router? What about that thread title?

yes i have rested safari and i havent tried another browser cuz i thought safari was the fastest no i havent tried the wired connection cuz i dont know how to do tthat and i will change the thread title soon

Safari might be the fastest browser for some, but in order to see, where the problem is, you have to eliminate some factors. Thus the suggestion to try another browser. Chrome for example is considered to be fast too.
For a wired connection you simply need an ethernet cable and connect Mac and router with it. Nothing more to it.

Thanks for editing your thread title, but it is still misleading. A better thread title would be: Webpages are taking very long to load (up to 3').
 
Okay i wil just phone my internet supporter or i might just have to get a mac person to coome and fix it but i will definetly get coogle ghrome
 
Another thought...

Another thought I have is: your download speed is 5 megabits and that's not really "super speed internet". It might be the only internet available in your area but being far away from the wireless access point can cause inconsistent speed. If the router with the antennas is at a low point in your parents working area you might try raising it up since it relies on radio signals and getting it higher off the ground will let that signal travel farther with less overall interference.
 
Sorry can't confirm it with your information.

However if you have At&T and 2Wire wireless router combo with safari 5
Then your issue is related to how safari 5 pulls and uses the DNS from that setup

You have 3 options.
Use a different internet browser.
Use OpenDNS/Google DNS which you can use safari 5
Contact At&T with any possible firmware update on your crappy 2Wire.

new mbp slow internet connection

Any suggestions on how to improve these numbers? They seem awfully slow for such a new computer.
I've changed the DNS and OpenDNS numbers as well and ran speedtest with the different settings. All of the test numbers came back nearly identical.
I'm using a netgear router.
BTW, I ran a speedtest on my wife's 4 year old Toshiba Satellite and the results came back:
Ping .63
Download 1.23
Upload .30
