Indeed, this is another WTF moment for Apple.

Next Apple will make a watch that will leap up and serve you Mocha when you want, but it won't be able to display time with any accuracy above the hour.

What smart phone on the market DOESN'T let you use custom sounds for texts and emails?

i was afraid this would be the answer

i just got the sound of the ghostbusters proton packs switching on and they would work perfectly for text alerts...

I can think of four smart phones that don't allow this. The original iPhone, the iPhone 3G, the iPhone 3GS, and the iPhone 4. I'm starting to see a pattern here . . .
 
The worst part for me isn't the fact that I can't change the default since I do like it, it's that when your in a crowded room and somebody gets a text, 75 people check their phones.
 
Maybe Steve laughs when 50 people in the airport all shuffle to drop their bags and check their pockets while his simply says, "iTellegram for Steve Jobs."

It wouldn't surprise me. He's gone from being a hippie to now a consumerist.
